Wednesday Story:
The city of Tye has cancelled its annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

According to a statement from the city, Fire Chief Shawn Hicks, with full support of the city officials has determined that it is in the best interest of the community and its citizens' safety to cancel its annual fireworks event.

Chief Hicks feels the display is too risky due to extreme, dry conditions in the area.

The fireworks show was scheduled for the evening of July 1.

At this point, a July 4th fireworks display is still scheduled at Abilene's Nelson Park.
