Two Injured During East Texas House Explosion

ZAVALLA, Texas (KETK) - The Zavalla Volunteer Fire Department is currently working a critical incident where a house has exploded.

According to officials, the house, located off Pleasure Drive, exploded around 6:00 a.m.

There are several other houses damaged in the area. The Zavalla Fire Chief, who lives about eight miles from the scene, said he could hear the explosion from his house. An "older" man and woman were inside the house at the time of the explosion, according to officials.

Following the blast, the woman ended up outside the home, while the man was buried inside. A neighbor was able to drag the man from the house. He was then flown to a Galveston hospital with critical injuries. The woman was taken to a Lufkin hospital with unknown injuries.

Officials are asking everyone to stay clear of the area as firefighters and investigators work to clear the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed the cause could possible have been a propane leak. Authorities are still waiting for the fire marshal to respond to determine the exact cause.

At least three other homes were damaged in the explosion. The damages include; broken windows, broken fences and damaged garage doors.

The fire department is also asking everyone to pray for the victims involved. Exact details concerning injuries are unknown at this time.
