The Abilene Fire Department has determined that an early-morning house fire on South 12 and Sycamore was caused by arson.
The following is a press release from the Abilene Fire Department detailing the fire:
Shortly before 4:00 a.m. this morning the AFD responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of S. 12th.
Upon arrival there was smoke and fire showing from the back porch of the house. Smoke and flames moved quickly into the attic space of the vacant house. Firefighters made a quick stop and damage was limited to the attic and back of the house.
No one was living in the home at the time of the fire. It was in the process of being remodeled and the home was empty. Total damage estimate is somewhere around $20,000.
In all, seven AFD apparatus responded, and there were no injuries reported.

Firefighters were able to get the flames under control in about 20 minutes.
Fire officials tell us it could be a possible arson case. The home is vacant, and the fire was confined to one bedroom and the attic.
The investigation is ongoing.
