According to MicroplexNews.com, the Merriman Cemetery Association Board has authorized a special account at First Financial Bank to help in restoration of headstones damaged, between June 21, 2014 & June 28, 2014, in the destruction of the Merriman Cemetery on FM 2461 about a mile south of Ranger.
The Association is working with Sterling Monument Company on the restoration process. The destruction is devastating, and cost to restore those headstones that can be restored is going to be very high.
For anyone who would like to help, contributions may be made at any First Financial Bank to the "Merriman Cemetery Fund Special Account." First Financial Bank has made the first contribution.
The Association continues to look for family members of those whose resting places have been violated. Inquiries may be mailed to: Merriman Cemetery Association, P O Box 99, Ranger, Texas 76470, or call 254-647-3340, leave message for a return call.
Updated on 07/11/14: Search Continues for Cemetery Vandals
The search continues for the vandals that damaged dozens of headstones in an Eastland County cemetery, as well as for the families of those whose graves have been disturbed and headstones destroyed or damaged.
The vandalism was discovered at Merriman Cemetery just south of Ranger on June 30. The public was outraged to find dozens of grave sites had been tampered with and many head stones, some old and irreplaceable, pushed over or broken.
On July 9th, investigators revealed that they had new leads based on cell phone records, though they would not give any specifics.
The Eastland County Sheriff's Department recovered beer cans from the scene in hopes of collecting fingerprints.
Now, the small Merriman Cemetery Board of Directors is searching for the families of those affected by the vandalism, though with some of the damaged grave sites so old, it remains to be seen whether any family remains in the area.
At this time, investigations continue.
