Update: Son Arrested, Father in Hospital After Hammer Attack

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office has released details on the assault that took place Thursday afternoon when a son allegedly struck his father in the head with a hammer. According to a family member that spoke with BCH, the incident did not happen during an argument.

The man arrested for the assault is 31-year-old Benito Juarez Madrid who allegedly attacked his 62-year-old father with a claw hammer, sending him to the hospital.

On Thursday, April 17, 2014, at about 10:00 a.m., Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical personnel responded to 1302 Pecan Street in Buffalo Gap to the scene of an injured person. The initial information was that someone had been struck with a hammer.

Deputies found a 62 year old man with a severe head injury. He was transported to Hendrick Medical Center by ambulance and remains hospitalized at the time of this statement.

Witnesses interviewed and evidence collected indicate that the victim and his son got into an argument which ended when the son attacked the father with a claw hammer. When a relative of the family attempted to intervene, he was threatened with the hammer as well.

Benito Juarez Madrid, a 31 year old Hispanic male, was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault against a Family Member that resulted in Serious Bodily Injury, and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Madrid gave a statement to investigators and was subsequently transported to the Taylor County Jail. His bonds total $80,000.

Detectives were called out Thursday morning around 10:30 after a call came in that a man had been assaulted with a hammer on the 1300 block of Pecan in Buffalo Gap.

The victim, which turned out to be the father of the assaulter, had been struck in the head with a hammer during an argument with his son.

The father was transported to the hospital for treatment, though the extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

Multiple Taylor County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrived on scene shortly after the assault.

The son was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
