Just after 8 this morning, Abilene 911 got a call from a parent at an elementary school that a man was going in the school with a gun tucked in his belt.

The school, Jane Long Elementary, was placed on lock down.

The Abilene PD SWAT team then swept the school.

A suspect was taken into custody. At this time we do not know if he was taken into custody at the school or at a second location.

Police tell us the man sent a threat via text message to a parent that read in part: “I’m going to kill all y’all.” Then the suspect showed up at the school to check that parent’s child out. We do not know if he was successful with that check-out or not.

No students or school staff were hurt.

Students are being released to their parents.

Unknown right now is if the suspect actually brought the gun to school when he attempted to check out the child.
