A head on collision, shortly after 2:00 pm, on highway 36 closed the road for hours. A pick up and milk tanker truck collided sending the tanker off the side of the road and catch fire.

The collision claimed the life of an elderly Cross Plains woman, Kara Murphy Watson. The driver of the tanker truck was not hurt.

Traffic was diverted in Cross Plains and at highway 283. Many people sat and waited in traffic for awhile, but then gave up and turned around.

One man waited for the scene to clear because it was the only road he could take and he was low on gas.

Three volunteer fire departments showed up to help put the fire out. Cross plains, Baird, and Eula were all on scene.

Callahan county sheriffs and DPS troopers kept the road closed until several hours the accident occurred.
