Grandmother Speaks Out After Her Grandson Was Shot

An 11-year old Stamford is recovering after being allegedly shot by his 24-year old step-father.

The boy was shot on Tuesday, in the upper right leg. According to the mother's statement to Stamford police, the boy's mother and step-father were arguing. The boy was in the room when the mother asked the boy to pick up her cigarettes. The step-father did not want him to, grabbed his 410 shotgun off the bed and shot the boy in the leg.

The boy's two brothers and one sister were in the next room playing a game and his grandmother was in the living room watching a movie.

His grandmother heard the shots and then her daughter screamed. The boy was taken to a hospital in Abilene and then transported to a hospital in Lubbock.

The boy underwent surgery this morning, Wednesday. According to the grandmother the surgery went well and now the boy is recovering and talking.

The boy's step-father, Michael Quinonez, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a felony in possession of a firearm.

He is being held at the Jones County Jail on a $32,500 dollar bond.
