Merkel ISD Hosts Drug Trends Training for Parents

The Taylor Alliance for Prevention Coalition and Merkel ISD hosted a drug training event for parents and other community members tonight.

Although the event was prepared for a turnout of 50, roughly 15 people showed up, a disappointing show for the school district.

Attendees discussed underage drinking and other substance abuse issues.

Recently, drivers in Abilene may have noticed TAP's new billboard on Pine street reminding parents that it's not worth the risk to be the "cool party parent."

Merkel Police Chief, Bob Jones, says more than 75% of crime in Merkel is meth related.
