There have already been confirmed cases of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus in Northeast Abilene.

City personnel will begin spraying specific areas around Abilene beginning Wednesday morning, however, some are taking preventative measures in their own hands.

Parents like Daniel Gonzalez from Abilene are stocking up on repellent and making sure to take it whenever they go outdoors, especially to his son's baseball games.

There is no vaccine for the virus, which city personnel say makes it even more urgent for residents to clear out any standing water near homes and to use plenty of DEET spray when outdoors.
