"We have a lot of performances and plays that the Lyric will do itself we have a history of community musicals and straight plays events along that line and children's theater is going to be a big part of what we do," says Eric Evens, the theater manager.
But before all that begins, the staff is working hard to update the theater while remnants of the past still remain. You can see where support beams used to be that held up the original air conditioning from the 1920s when air conditioning was still new. The foyer also contains the original tile.
Evens says, "I think it's going to help revitalize the entire area downtown when you start having literally hundreds and over the course of the years thousands of people walking up and down the streets parking walking it makes a difference for businesses."
The theater is located in the historic downtown district in Brownwood so the renovation of the theater is not just the renovation of a building but it's a way for Brownwood to preserve it's oh so rich history.
Evens concludes saying, "People, I don't think, realize the impact that theater, and art and music can have on a community."
