Abilene Regional Airport firefighters rushed to assist a plane Friday morning when a pilot reported an emergency.

It was about 8:15 when the pilot of a single-engine Federal Express plane asked for emergency clearance to land because of a cockpit warning light signifying an engine fire.

The plane landed safely, and firefighters disconnected a battery that may have caused the light to come on.

The plane was towed into a hangar so the mechanics could figure out what happened.
