Webcast: Good News for Abilene Economy

There is some good news for the Abilene economy.

The Texas Workforce Commission reports that the Abilene unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent in December.

The report shows that there were $82,000 people working in Abilene last month, and only 3,700 people who wanted to work, but didn't have jobs.

The Texas average was 5.6 percent.

The US jobless rate last month was 6-and-a-half percent.

The state agency reports that the Abilene economy created about 100 new jobs in December.

The Texas economy added more than $17,000 new jobs.
