Cook Children's opening a new specilaty facility in Abilene to keep patients close to home

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Cook Children's is moving to a new facility in Abilene to better treat their patients.

Cook Children's has been serving Abilene for 34 years. Now, they are expanding and offering more specialty services to better treat patients here in town.

Since 1983, Cook Children's physicians had been traveling to Abilene to treat patients. In 1995, Cook Children's opened a facility here in Abilene. With their newest expansion, Cook Children's will be moving into a facility twice the size of the previous one.

This new facility will bring vital technology to Abilene patients for the first time. With the addition of telemedicine, the clinic will double the number of specialty appointments. The new technologies, such as stress testing and echocardiograms, will allow patients to be treated here in Abilene instead of traveling to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.

Currently, the clinic is accepting referred patients from over a dozen pediatric specialties including:

  • Adult Congenital Cardiology
  • Cardiology
  • Child Advocacy Resources and Evaluation (CARE) Team
  • Endocrinology and Diabetes
  • Genetics
  • Hematology and Oncology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Metabolic Genetics
  • Nephrology
  • Neuro-Psychology
  • Psychiatry
  • Pulmonology
  • Stress Testing
  • Urology/Genitourinary

The public is invited to tour the new Cook Children's Specialty Clinic at 410 Lone Star Drive during an open house on Thursday, June 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
