Motorcyclist Killed on I-20 in Merkel

MERKEL, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The motorcyclist killed during a crash involving an eighteen wheeler on I-20 in Merkel Wednesday morning has been identified.

Lee Saenz, 62, of Brownfield, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the eastbound lanes of the interstate near mile maker 270 just before 11:00 a.m., according to police scanner traffic, according to the Merkel Police Department.

Police say Saenz's next of kin has been notified of his passing.

It's currently unclear what happened during the incident, but the motorcycle involved somehow ended up underneath the eighteen-wheeler.

The driver of the eighteen-wheeler was not injured during the incident. KTAB and KRBC crew members observed him talking to law enforcement officials at the scene.

Another motorcyclist is in the hospital fighting for his life after he was involved in a crash in Abilene that happened minutes before this one.
