National Salvation Army Week in the Big Country

The Salvation Army Gives Back to Volunteers

ABILENE, Texas (KRBC)- Each year The Salvation Army sets aside a specific week and this year it lands on May 15th through May 19th.

"Usually Salvation Army's hold events, but we really wanted to focus our attentions on the community, because without them, we wouldn't be running." Said Futrelle.

Throughout the week, Shelley Futrelle, the Communications Director, told KRBC that the local nonprofit decided to give back to the volunteers, first responders, media, and community partners.

"That is what it is all about, one drop makes all the difference, so if you can give one hour of your time it changes everything it changes somebody's life in the public you don't even you might not ever meet, but it changes them."

Starting Monday they delivered homemade donuts to the Abilene Fire Department, media and community partners around town and later on they will be giving the Abilene Police Department hotdogs!

Tuesday night they are holding a Volunteer Dinner for those who have helped The Salvation Army in the past, present and plan on helping in the future.
