Customers hoping to grab breakfast at IHOP Sunday morning were turned away after the restaurant was forced to shut their doors temporarily.

"We pull up and there was not a car in sight," says Josephine Leal. "I knew then that something was wrong."

A shooting before 4 a.m. sent a 25-year-old Hispanic male to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. As of Sunday, Abilene police were searching for the suspect who opened fire from the parking lot while the victim was exiting. According to reports, the victim and suspect got into an altercation inside the restaurant.

"It's very sad," says Dan Fergus. "It's a terrible thing I do not know what to say."

The bullets shattered the front door and left holes in the windows. Managers and employees spent the morning cleaning and repairing the damages.

The victim was sent to Hendrick Medical Center and is in stable condition. A relative of the victim tells KTAB News that he was shot three times in the stomach and twice in the arm. The relative believes the problem stemmed from a night club where both the victim and suspect got into an argument.

IHOP reopened their doors for lunch. The suspect in this case is a black male of unknown age. If anyone has information on his identity, they are encouraged to contact the Abilene Police Department at 325-673-8331 or Crimestoppers at 325-676-TIPS.
