1 killed, 3 injured in fiery Scurry County crash

SCURRY COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - One person was killed and three others injured following a fiery crash near Snyder Thursday afternoon. 

Benigno Gil, 40, of Lubbock, was pronounced deceased at the hospital after the crash that took place in the eastbound lanes of US 84 about 13 miles north of Snyder around 1:30 p.m., according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The press release states an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck collided on the highway then both caught fire, injuring all four parties involved. 

Gil, who was a passenger in the pickup, was critically injured, along with both drivers involved in the crash, according to the press release, which states another passenger in the pickup sustained minor injuries. 

All three critically injured patients were airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock to receive treatment. Gil passed away, and the current condition of the other two patients is not known at this time. 

The DPS press release does not disclose what caused the fatal crash.
