1000 Get Free Admission at 'Adventure Cove' Opening in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Abilene's first aquatic center will be officially open to the public Thursday afternoon, and 1,000 people have the chance to enjoy the park for free as part of the grand opening festivities!

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Adventure Cove will take place at 3:30 p.m. at 2742 S. 9th Street.

The doors will open for two separate sessions following the ribbon-cutting - one from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and one from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

A press release from the City says the first 500 attendees at each session get free entrance into the park.

The following information about Adventure Cove has been provided by the City of Abilene:

Adventure Cove is a family aquatic center with attractions for all ages.  Voters approved the funding for this project by passing Proposition 6 of the May 2015 Bond election.  The Existing Rose Park Pool was removed, and the new construction has resulted in a modern water recreation facility where families can enjoy a leisure pool with a zero-depth beach entry, a lazy river, a pair of water slides, a party pavilion and a new bathhouse.  Adventure Cove has been designed with the future in mind, providing space to eventually add features and expand the lazy river.

Regular hours for Adventure Cove will be Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00-2:45 PM and 3:15-7:00 PM, and Sunday and Monday from 1:00-7:00 PM.  There will be a scheduled maintenance break each day Tuesday through Saturday where the facility will close from 2:45-3:15 PM, no maintenance break on Sunday or Monday.  Prices range based on age and height; children 2 and under are free, children under 48 inches are $4.00, children over 48 inches are $6.00, and adults 18 and older are $6.50.  Visitors must pay to re-enter the facility after the maintenance break. Riders must be over 48 inches to ride the water slides.

Concessions for the grand opening celebration will be available for purchase.  No outside food and beverages allowed.
