2 children left in hot car, 1 dead, 1 hospitalized

PORTALES, New Mexico (KAMR) - A child is dead another is hospitalized after being left in a hot car in Portales, New Mexico.

According to the Portales Police Department, officers responded to a local daycare along with the Portales Ambulance in reference to two children having seizures at around 3:25 p.m. on July 25.

Upon arrival, officers located two children not breathing and aid was rendered.

Both children were transported to Roosevelt General Hospital regarding a heat emergency. One child was later transferred to a Lubbock area hospital, and the other was later pronounced dead at Roosevelt General Hospital.

Police say, Sandi Taylor, 31 and Mary E. Taylor, 67, were arrested and charged with child abuse resulting in great bodily harm and child abuse resulting in death.

They are being held without bond until their appearance before the magistrate judge.

Police say the children were left unattended inside of the vehicle for about an hour and a half.
