$33,000 worth of jewelry reported stolen from elderly Abilene woman

"It feels like a piece of my heart has been taken from me."

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - An elderly Abilene woman says $33,000 worth of jewelry, including her late husband's wedding ring, was stolen from her last week.

84-year-old Gene told KTAB she believes the jewelry could have been taken by a carpet cleaning company that visited her home on Bel Air Drive Tuesday.

She and her daughter have both searched the home and found no sign of the missing jewelry, though the box it was stored in, along with some costume pieces, remain untouched.

Every piece of stolen jewelry was special to Gene, but she's mourning the loss of two pieces in particular - her wedding ring that was soldered to her husband's wedding ring when he passed away in 2001, and a piece of jewelry her father-in-law hand-crafted for her before his death.

Gene says she feels "violated" after learning of the theft and during an interview with KTAB, she said that "It feels like a piece of my heart has been taken from me."

A police report was filed as soon as Gene noticed the jewelry was missing, though the name of the carpet cleaning company she suspects is behind the crime has not been publicly disclosed.

Tonight on KTAB News at 5PM, 6PM, and 10PM, crime reporter Stacie Wirmel will have the full story of this reported jewelry theft and its impact on Gene.
