3rd Student Succumbs to Injuries from Haskell Wreck

Abilene, Texas (KTAB/KRBC)- A third student from Vernon College has succumbed to his injuries following a wreck in Haskell County. Jakob Plummer, 20, of Petrolia, Texas died Sunday morning. Plummer was a member of the college's rodeo team.

Family members of Jakob Plummer wrote the following message on social media regarding the accident:

"All we know is God has heard our prayers and is answering them in a different way than we have hoped. We know one day we will see Him face to face and hopefully be able to make sense of this. Until then, we ask for prayers of comfort and peace."

The wreck took place on U.S. 277 just north of Haskell around 6:30 p.m. on March 18th.

Yancie McCuistion, 20, of Sugar City, Colorado was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash and Vinita Jean Trevino, 19, of Petrolia died later that night at the hospital.

A fourth student involved in the crash, Drew Hall, is still recovering. His current condition is not known at this time.

The cause of the fatal crash is still under investigation, but a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety says McCuistion, the driver of the students' vehicle, disregarded a stop sign, causing a truck pulling a mobile home to impact their vehicle.

The 73-year-old driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
