$45 million Wylie ISD bond passes with 69% vote

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A $45 million bond to expand Wylie ISD has passed, meaning property taxes will rise.

The bond passed by a final unofficial vote of 69.40% to 30.60% during Tuesday night's general election.

FOR: 1,735 votes
AGAINST: 765 votes

The vote is unofficial until they are canvassed. Overseas ballots have until Nov. 13.

Abilene residents living in the Wylie ISD taxing district will now pay an extra $330 per year in property taxes for a home valued at $200,000.

Wylie ISD will use the $45 million to build two campuses by 2020 - Wylie East Elementary for grades Pre-K through 4th, and Wylie Middle School for 5th through 8th grade.

A steady increase in students year-to-year is the catalyst behind the district's expansion.
