BROWN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Brown County law enforcement agencies teamed up Thursday morning to arrest 57 suspected drug dealers, some with ties Mexican drug cartels, as part of Operation METHodical.

A press release states the idea for Operation METHodical began in January of 2016 when the Brown County Sheriff's Office, the Brownwood Police Department, and the Early Police Department joined forces in an effort to "combat methamphetamine trafficking in Brownwood and Brown County."

The subsequent investigation lasted for over a year-and-a-half, allowing officers to seize and purchase not only large quantities of methamphetamine, but other drugs like cocaine, marijuana, and prescription medication as well, according to the release, which states "the offenders in the investigation ranged from local distributors to those that have direct ties to Mexican drug cartels."

The investigation culminated with the initiation of Operation METHodical, which began in the early morning hours of August 24, 2017, when 80 different law enforcement agents began serving arrest warrants on 57 suspected drug dealers.

The press release states, "all of the defendants in this operation were actively involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics in Brown County and the Brownwood community."

All suspects are facing drug charges, and some will be facing additional charges as well.

Brown County law enforcement told KTAB and KRBC nearly 40 of the suspects are currently in custody, and the number will continue to rise until all 57 wanted suspects are arrested.
