$736,000 worth of meth seized at El Paso port

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Customs and Border Protection officers found an estimated $736,000 worth of meth hidden inside a U.S.-bound Chevrolet Malibu driven by a Phoenix woman Monday night.

The seizure happened just before 8 p.m. at the Ysleta International crossing when the 24-year-old Phoenix woman entered the port driving the 2011 Malibu from Mexico. The car was randomly selected for secondary inspection where the X-portal machine noted an anomaly in the car and a CBP drug-sniffing K-9 also alerted officers to possible drugs.

CBP officers eventually discovered a hidden compartment hidden inside the car with 23 wrapped bundles that allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

The woman, a U.S. citizen, was turned over the ICE special agents to face charges associated with the smuggling attempt.
