A century of knowledge: Dr Virginia Connally turning 105-years-old

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - She's lived through two world wars, became the first female doctor in Abilene and has won numerous awards.

Dr. Virginia Connally is an iconic figure to many here in the Key City.

Now, she's getting set to celebrate a birthday.

"In thinking back over the last few years," stated Dr. Connally. "I think that whatever you do, do the best you can."

She is turning 105-years-old.

"Well, I really don't know. This is the first time I've done it," she added.

Her spunk and wittiness shines through the moment you meet her.

That charm is what kept her caregiver, Gracie Gil, around for so long.

"She's been such a funny lady and I think that's what kept me staying here because she was always joking around always saying, 'Gracie we need to find something to do, we need to keep you busy,'" explained Gil.

Dr. Connally still remembers what it was like to become the first woman physician in Abilene.

"Most people were accepting because so many of the men had already gone into service," Dr. Connally said.

Her life is full of memories and awards and part of that will be celebrated along with her 105th birthday this Monday.
