Abilene Aquatic Center Should Open in Less Than One Month

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The projected opening date for Abilene's first aquatic center is less than one month away, and city council members have finally decided on a name!

Adventure Cove, as it was dubbed during a meeting Thursday morning, is set to open sometime near Memorial Day or the beginning of June at Rose Park off S. 7th Street.

City council members also gave approval for work to begin on the parking lot of Adventure Cove next week. Once complete, the City may allow food trucks at park on a rotating basis to keep consumers satisfied as they wait in line.

The water park's max capacity is 510 people, so city officials expect occupancy will fill up fast, especially in the first month-or-so of operation.

One solution to this issue is closing the park for half-an-hour in between morning and afternoon shifts to allow additional people a chance to get inside the park, though this is just a potential solution and nothing official has been decided.

Adventure Cove will feature a pool with beach entry, a lazy river, water slides, and more.

General admission for children will vary based on age and height from $2 - $4 and adults will be charged $6.50.

Mayor Archibald is excited for the commencement and future of this project. “The Aquatic Center is something that our citizens have been wanting for quite some time.  The City of Abilene is thrilled that we will finally be able to fulfill those wishes,” he said.  “The Rose Park Family Aquatics Center will offer family fun to our community for years to come.”
