Abilene City Council votes down street maintenance fee, could be headed to public ballot

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - A proposed street maintenance fee for Abilene residents brought a crowd to City Hall Thursday night, and after hearing from many citizens, the council rejected the ordinance. However, it's likely not over just yet.

With a four to three vote, the council voted to deny the ordinance. It is likely that the fee will come back in the form of a public vote.

Many of the people who came up to speak in front of the council say that they would rather see the issue come to a public vote, which is something that some council members agreed on as well.

If the issue is to come to a vote, it would most likely appear before the council in the coming weeks, allowing them to place it on a ballot as soon as May.
