Abilene ISD students and teachers safe after crash

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Five students and a teacher traveling on an Abilene ISD school bus are safe after a scary encounter Monday evening.

The incident happened before 7 pm on Monday. According to Abilene police, the bus was traveling north on Bishop Road when a car traveling in the opposite direction moved over to allow passing space.

Officers say the rainy conditions caused a portion of the road to crumble and sent the bus off the road into a ditch. It crashed into a fence at the Elmwood Memorial Park before knocking down a power line that fell on the bus.

Rene McAden, the Abilene ISD director of transpiration spoke to KTAB/KRBC on scene saying the students were thankful the bus driver made them wear their seat belts.

They were rescued from the bus without any injuries.
