Abilene Man Arrested During Nationwide Child Porn Investigation

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - An Abilene man was arrested for child pornography following a nation-wide investigation into an online downloading service.

Jorge Lopez, 38, was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Child Pornography after the investigation in November of 2016.

Court documents say detectives in Reno, Nevada, began investigating the downloading, uploading, and circulation of child pornography using online BitTorrent software.

An IP address associated with a computer in Abilene was using BitTorrent client "Ares" to download child pornography.

The Abilene Police Department tracked the IP address to a home on the south side of town.

When officer executed a search warrant at the residence, Lopez "admitted to downloading child pornography using 'Ares'", according to the court documents.

Officers then searched the computer Lopez was using and found no images of child pornography. However, the documents state the search indicated the "Ares" program was recently deleted from the computer.

Lopez remains in the Taylor County Jail on a $7,500 bond issued for the child pornography charge.
