Abilene man indicted for sexual assault of child

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - An Abilene man accused of sexually assaulting a child has been indicted.

A Taylor County Grand Jury indicted Darren Lewis, 45, on one count of Sexual Assault of a Child in connection to an incident that happened in July of 2016.

Court documents state a child victim came forward with allegations against Lewis, claiming Lewis touched himself inappropriately in front of the child, made lewd comments toward the child, then forced the child to engage in various sexual acts.

The victim's family members became concerned after the assault when he "kept acting out in school" and "would frequently yell that he was gay", according to the documents.

The documents also state the victim told police Lewis would try to get him to entice other minors to engage in sexual activity.

Lewis was 43 and the victim was under the age of 13 when the alleged sexual assault occurred.

He remains booked in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling over $180,000.
