Abilene man tells police he committed armed robbery for meth money

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - An Abilene man is facing new charges after telling police he committed an armed robbery to get money for meth and his baby's mom.

Kielyn Batts, 28,  is now charged with Aggravated Robbery in addition to a Possession of Prohibited Weapons charge issued when police connected him to a homemade explosive device left inside an Abilene motel room.

During an interview with detectives, court documents state Batts admitted to committing a robbery at a 7-Eleven in December of 2016.

The documents state Batts entered the convenience store, held the clerk at gunpoint, then escaped with $39 in cash and a pack of cigarettes.

Batts told police he committed this robbery and one other because "he needed money for methamphetamine and his baby's mom."

He remains in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling $135,000.
