Abilene Men Use Hot Dog to Catch Near Record-Breaking Catfish

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Two Abilene men made a near record-breaking catch using nothing but a hot dog as bait!

Steve Coates and Brady Rosenquist caught a 60.4 pound flathead catfish using nothing but the hot dogs at Lake Ft. Phantom Hill on Thursday.

Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife records show the Abilene mens' catch is just shy of the Lake Ft. Phantom Hill flathead catfish record set by Mark Tate, who caught a 61.25 pound flathead catfish on June 18, 2011.

The most recent fishing report for Lake Ft. Phantom hill, released on April 26, 2017, is as follows:

Water murky; 66–69 degrees; 0.2’ high. Black bass are fair on Zara Spooks early, later switching to Texas rigs, crankbaits and jigs. Crappie are fair to good on jigs and minnows. Catfish are fair to good on nightcrawlers.
