Abilene native turned country musician coming back for concert

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) -  If you listen to Texas Country music, you may have heard of Hunter Hutchinson.

He's an up and coming star in the music business in Texas and he's also from Abilene.

"I'd rather play in front of 6,000 people than play a song for a small crowd," Hutchinson said. "I've always been that way."

Hutchinson hasn't always loved music, though.

"I never cared. My dad played guitar forever and he always tried to throw the guitar in my hand to learn," he added.

It wasn't until his dad passed away in 2008 that he really picked up a guitar.

"After he passed," he explained, "his guitars were around. I don't know it just felt right."

Because of his dad's death, he met another Texas Country star and Abilene native Aaron Watson.

Watson was a special guest at a golf tournament in honor of his dad.

"I was 14 at the time. So, I was at that age where you kind of know what is going on but not really and she (his mother) was like you're going to sit on a hole with Aaron Watson. Ok, who's that? I never really listened to music back then. I don't know why," he said.

Their friendship would then blossom and Watson is who helped inspire and guide him to where he is today.

It's Hutchinson's fraternity brothers, however, who he credits with making him a well-known star.

After recording some music and trying to hide it, his frat brothers found them.

"They took one without me knowing," he stated, "and I woke up the next day and they had posted one of their favorite songs on YouTube."

He went viral and is now playing all over the nation.

His biggest show is coming up soon. It's right back here in Abilene with the same man who helped shape him into the musician he is.

"This will be the biggest and it's pretty cool we are doing it wih Aaron because we are both Abilene boys and we will have a lot of friends and family out there which we don't get to do much of."

Tickets are still on sale for the show which Hutchison is opening up for Pat Green and Aaron Watson.

The show is January 26th at the Taylor County Expo Center.
