Abilene Dream Center cross wood shop destroyed in morning fire

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - An Abilene non-profit is asking for prayers and support after a fire destroyed a wood shop used for their biggest fundraiser, hand-crafted crosses.

The Abilene Dream Center, a faith-based program focused on addiction and recovery, lost their workspace on the 2800 block of Old Anson Road when it caught fire around 4:30 a.m. Investigators believe faulty wiring caused the entire building to go up in flames.

First responders were able to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings, including the men's home nearby, but the wood shop was deemed a total loss.

Dream Center officials are still exploring the impact of this fire amidst what they say is "an already slow fundraising season".

The cross program has played a crucial part in supporting the Dream Center and their residents for years.

Anyone who wishes to donate to the Abilene Dream Center can visit their website and click on the donate button, or more information on how to help is available by phone at (325) 701-9530 or by email at marketing@abilenedreamcenter.com
