ACU engineering program receives national recognition

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Abilene Christian University revealed in a press release that the engineering program has received a national recognition.

The undergrad engineering program at ACU has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs. 

The accreditation guarantees the program meets the rigorous standards that produce graduates ready to enter their field. 

The ABET accreditation is sough worldwide. The process reviews program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support. The process is performed by highly skilled professionals from academia, industry and government with expertise in ABET disciplines.

“We have been working toward this goal since before we even had students, so we are thrilled to have achieved this distinction for the ACU engineering program,” said Dr. Darby Hewitt, executive co-director of engineering. “We are also grateful to the ACU engineering alumni and students for their patience as we have built the program in their midst.”

The program’s other executive co-director of engineering, Dr. Tim Kennedy, said, “Earning ABET accreditation is an important step in our continued efforts in training the engineering leaders of tomorrow.” He also said, “Meeting the rigorous standards of ABET further reinforces the high quality of our engineering program, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and demonstrates to our students the relevance of their degree in the job market.”
