Adult, Child Drown in Central Texas Pond

BRYAN, Texas (KWKT/KYLE) - The Brazos County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the bodies of an adult and a child have been found in a private pond northwest of Bryan.

Deputies were called to the area near the 4000 block of Telluride Way shortly after 7:00 p.m. Wednesday after the pair had gone fishing at the pond but had not returned.

Deputies report that at 7:39 p.m., a three-year-old child was found at the edge of the pond and was taken to CHI St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan where the child was pronounced dead.

The search continued for the 21-year-old man who  had been with the child until it was suspended at 1:00 a.m. Thursday.

The search resumed at first light and the body of 21-year-old Omar Martinez was recovered.

A sheriff's office statement says it is suspected that both Mr. Martinez and the child were fishing at the pond in a small boat.

It appears there were no flotation devices being utilized and the boat capsized and eventually sank.

Autopsies were ordered performed on both bodies.

The statement says no foul play is suspected.
