Airsoft experts react to misuse of airsoft guns

Late Thursday morning first responders arrive at the salvation army for a reported shooting. A 90-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by some sort of air gun according to police. Witnesses say his assailants shot, then drove away in a white suv.

That same day, not too much later, abilene teenager, brody shoopman, reports a similar incident happening to him.

I was just sitting there at the bus stop, waiting for the bus, next thing I know, red light, everything normal, cars start to pick up, and something hits me and I say why?

While neither he nor the older gentleman were seriously injured, according to airsoft experts, this sort of incident could have serious repercussions.

"Nowadays with so many packing, if you go and shoot at anyone, odds are they'll shoot back. It's a good way to get hurt and for others to get hurt," stated Chris Havens of Kastway Airsoft.

On top of that Brody, who also works at Kastway, says this behavior could ruin recreational airsoft for many.

"There's those who are good with it and then the morons that ruin it for the rest of us," he stated.

To be safe, Brody and Chris say you need to do one major thing.

"Treat it like a real firearm, that's really all you need to do," he finished.
