Alliance for Women and Children brings in Coach Herman Boone as keynote speaker

ABILENE, Texas (KRBC) - A local group making a positive impact in the lives of Abilene women and children brought a special face to their annual luncheon.

The Alliance for Women and Children brought in Coach Herman Boone, whom Denzel Washington played in "Remember the Titans," speak from his heart.

"To speak for and to the people of the Alliance, they did me a favor," said Coach Boone.

Boone brought his passion of making a difference into his speech to thank those who have worked with the organization.

"It's because of the afternoon programs and the mentoring programs of the Alliance, it's because people like this, Abilene people care," said Boone.

Boone says he is thankful for the support the Alliance has provided to so many people.

"People like those who are involved in the Alliance that put a wrap-around service around our children that most people just forget," said Boone.

The organization provides after school care as well as other programs for women and children.

"One of the things that we've earned this year and want to continue is the Texas Rising Star Certification to, for after-school programs that provide a higher level of care for our after-school kids," said Jenny Young, Board President of the Alliance for Women and Children.

Boone came to Abilene to share his passions with all whom he could touch.

"It just seemed like it was a good time to have him come and talk about teamwork and about people coming together and working together toward a common goal," said Toni Brockway, Executive Director of the Alliance for Women and Children. "We were just so excited to have him come here."

"I love this area, it has values, and beliefs, and love for the children," said Boone.
