American Cancer Society set to open new cancer resource center in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (Press Release) – The American Cancer Society is partnering with Texas Oncology—Abilene to create a new center so patients can access Society resources.

The new Cancer Resource Center, located at 1904 Pine Street, Suite 1B (inside the Professional Building next to Hendrick Medical Center) is scheduled to open Tuesday, October 3. The Center will be staffed by trained volunteers Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 am to 11 am. “We are proud to partner with the American Cancer Society to offer information and services to patients in a setting that’s convenient for them,” said Jeff Messer, Practice Director at Texas Oncology—Abilene. “When patients visit the center, they’ll have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with someone who can tell them about how the Society can support them and their families through their diagnosis and treatment. That type of personal connection is invaluable when facing cancer.”

“Our community presence is absolutely vital to our progress, including the volunteers and community partners who help us serve patients, deliver life-saving messages, raise funds, and advocate for cancer-fighting public policies,” said Andrea Taurins, American Cancer Society Executive Director for Central and West Texas. “By moving our services from our existing office location to this new center, we can better serve patients and their families.”

In addition to the new Cancer Resource Center, patients and their families can contact the American Cancer Society anytime, day or night at 1.800.227.2345 or visit cancer.org for cancer information and resources.
