Anthony Williams Elected As Abilene's New Mayor

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Abilene mayoral runoff election has wrapped up and Abilene now has a new mayor.

Anthony Williams has defeated Robert Briley  to become the next mayor of Abilene, taking over for long-time Abilene mayor Norm Archibald.

A lifelong Abilenian, Williams graduated from McMurry University with a bachelor's degree in 1993. He has since served Abilene in a number of capacities.

Since 2001 Williams has served on the City Council. He and his wife own Southwest Direct, a mailing and printing service.

in 2008 he established the Abilene Neighborhood Institute, a program designed to address issues in certain neighborhoods such as crime.

Williams took the election with 57.42 percent of the vote to Briley's 42.58 percent.

More people turned out for the mayoral runoff election than for the original election on May 6 of this year.

The vote count will be official on June 26, the same day that Anthony Williams will be sworn in as the new mayor of Abilene.
