APD apprehend man after he tries to steal police car

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Abilene police officers apprehended a man after he attempted to flee from them in one of their own police cars.

The Abilene Police Department was alerted to reports of a possibly intoxicated man near the Carver Street area where he had kicked a vehicle, leaving a dent.

When officers arrived, the man, Eric Lowry, began to approach them. One officer drew his tazer, and fired one round that proved to be ineffective.

Lowry then entered an unoccupied police car and attempted to flee before he hopped a curb. Officers were then able to apprehend him.

Lowry was last seen being loaded into an ambulance.
