Athletic director at center of controversy gets hired at Zephyr ISD with same position

"It's an exciting moment in my life."

ZEPHYR, Texas (KRBC) - The former Blanket High School Football Coach and athletic director Brent Williamson has been officially hired to take the same position at Zephyr ISD.

The vote for a two-year contract, beginning with the 2018-19 school year was unanimous.

"Just being able to go back home and coach in a place where you grew up playing football, and basketball, and you know, running track. It's an exciting moment in my life," Coach Williamson said.

Williamson is returning to Zephyr, where he graduated from in 1992.

"Looking forward to getting to work with the kids at Zephyr and trying to carry on the rich tradition. You know, they've been real successful in years past and being able to coach these kids. You know, it's a coach's dream to be able to go back home and have the opportunity that I have right now," Coach Williamson said.

You may recall, Coach Williamson was in the middle of a controversy when the Blanket school district decided to cut ties with him, after his first year of coaching at Blanket ISD.

Many students took the stand at a forum on Monday, February 27, to express their thoughts on the decision. Everyone who showed up was in support of the coach.

Coach Williamson will continue to finish the rest of this school year at Blanket ISD.

His official start date at Zephyr ISD is August 1, 2018.
