Author William Joyce returns to Abilene

William Joyce revisits Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - It isn't yet Christmas, so why was Santa in Abilene? Turns out he was taking a trip down memory lane and celebrating the story of Abilene.

William Joyce is the author of Santa Calls, a book that features Abilene, and helped the city become the Storybook Capital of Texas. Joyce is releasing a new edition of the book, and naturally, Abilene was the only place to announce this new edition.

Former Mayor Gary McCaleb says he remembers first learning about Abilene's home in the pages of Santa Calls, and how his first talks with Joyce helped shape Abilene into what it is today.

Joyce remembers the very first phone call: "He said, 'Well, will you move here?' And I said, 'I'm kind of busy right now, but I'll come to visit.' And that began our long relationship with Abilene, Texas."

The new edition of Santa Calls has some revisions and additions, but don't worry, Abilene is there to stay.
