Big Country Congressman at Stadium During Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTAB/KRBC) - Big Country congressman Mike Conaway was at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park in Virginia Wednesday morning when his colleague and two police officers, and others were shot.

Members of the Congressional Baseball team, including Conaway, were at the stadium practicing for and upcoming game when a shooter, who police believe was hiding behind third base, opened fire around 7:15 a.m.  

Republican House whip Rep. Steve Scalise was shot in the hip and initial reports also state two Capitol Hill Police Officers were shot.

Texas Rep. Roger Williams told CNN one of his staff members was injured as well.

Conaway was not injured during the shooting.

Multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed the shooter is in custody. Witnesses report hearing 50-to-100 shots during the incident.
