BROWNWOOD, Texas (KTAB) - It's a big day for the people of Brownwood. They'll soon have another option for medical care. City officials and Hendrick Medical Systems staff members broke ground on the Hendrick Medical Plaza.
After almost a year of having the Hendrick Surgery Center open in Brownwood, Hendrick is breaking ground on another project.
"And we've been very pleased with how that's been going so we started talking to some people that might be interested into going into a medical office building," Hendrick Medical Systems President and CEO, Tim Lancaster said.
It will include multiple physician offices, radiological services, physical therapy services a classroom and much more. Lancaster said the response has been very positive.
"We have several people that have committed to going into a medical office building and talking to a few others that we think will happen," Lancaster said.
The medical plaza will bring more life to the city of Brownwood. While Hendrick has been around a long time, Lancaster said it hasn't had a presence in Brownwood.
"We want people here in Brownwood to know about the care that we provide and the good quality of people, the good quality of care that we provide and we think when we're here and do that people will come away with a good sense of what we're all about," Lancaster said.
"The services that they provide will add value to our residents. They are creating great jobs for the community," Brownwood city manager, Emily Crawford said.
And for Lancaster, this project is especially close to his heart.
"Well I'm from Brownwood, I grew up here and I've lived here a couple of times," Lancaster said.
Hendrick Medical Plaza is on the 2300 block of Crockett Dr. adjacent to the Hendrick Surgery Center. It is expected to bring more than 30 jobs to the Brownwood area and will open in the Spring of 2019.
