Butterfly In The Park Memorial Service Helps Families Cope With Loss

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - The West Texas Rehabilitation Center's Hospice of the Big Country hosted their annual Butterfly in the Park Memorial Service on Saturday.

The event helps families to cope with the loss of a loved one as butterflies are released. The free butterflies help to represent the free spirit of the departed loved ones.

Marian Slaughter Ermis says, "When they come back to me, it's like my Daddy coming back to me."

The free service was open to the public, and the celebration of life helps family members to cope with the loss.

Sherry Coley says, "We're just here in memory of the ones we've lost this year, because we know they're still with us." Sandy Owens agrees, pointing upwards, saying, "They're up here."

The butterfly may represent peace and beauty, but after this event, they can represent much more.
