City leaders calling on citizens to help reduce crime in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - Accept responsibility, collaborate with the community and take action.

That's what city leaders set out to do at the A.C.T, "Stop the Violence" meeting. It was a chance for citizens and community leaders to come together to help reduce crime in the Key City.

"It takes all of us," said Mayor Anthony Williams. "So, we have law enforcement here, we have education here, we had the business community here but most importantly we had the Abilene citizens here."

Citizens who attended the meeting on Monday night got a chance to hear how they can be apart of the solution.

There are several committees formed as a part of the "Stop the Violence" movement.

"It's easy to talk about what the problem is, it's another thing to be about a solution for that problem," added Mayor Williams. "Tonight demonstrates here in Abilene, we're about the solutions and not just talking about what the problems are. "

If you'd like to join in on the movement you can reach out to the "Stop the Violence" Facebook page.
