City of Abilene Reconsiders Decision to Cancel After School Programs

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Abilene City Council members are going to reconsider their decision to cancel after school programs.

The City of Abilene confirmed a discussion will take place during their monthly recap meeting on March 21, 2017.

The meeting will be held at City Hall (555 Walnut Street) beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the public is invited to attend.

Abilene ISD parents were informed of the City's decision to end the afterschool program via a letter that was sent at the beginning of February.

The City then held a series of meetings with parents at the recreation centers where the after school programs took place at Rose Park, Daniels Park, Sears Park and Cobb Park.

If council members don't reverse their decision, the last day for the City of Abilene's after school program will be May 26, 2017, but the City's recreation division will still offer camps and the Summer Playground Program.
