City of Abilene will host Senior Games, registration going on now

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Abilene seniors should start stretching now, the Senior Games are coming to Abilene in October.

Registration is underway for the 2017 Senior Games in Abilene. Registration will be from August 1 through October 4, and the Games will be October 5 through October 8.

A fee of $25 is required for registration, plus an additional fee for each event.

The Senior Games promote physical and mental health among Texas senior citizens, with games hosted all across the state. Those who qualify will have the opportunity to compete in the Texas State Senior Games next year in San Antonio.

Seniors ages 50+ can compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in various events including archery, track and field, swimming, basketball, clay shooting, golf, cycling and more.

The opening ceremony will be held at Rose Park Senior Center on October 5. A sock hop social will be held during the games as well.
